Ah harvest times…Winemakers staring at the sky, praying in the evening that the wind will chase the clouds loaded with rain, synonymous of misfortune. The plants inspected one by one to make sure their bluish grapes are healthy, the grapes filled with sugar and warmth felt to assess their ripeness… As far as wine is concerned, nothing is left to chance.
We had a good spring, an almost perfect summer and on that date of September 1st 2009, all the conditions were gathered to pick up, at last, and carefully, the purple colored gamay grapes which would compose the most beautiful wine of these 2009 harvests. Picked up by hand naturally, the gamay of Mommessin is round, ripe and its full grapes are put in the tanks, ready for a typical Beaujolais wine-making process, leading to delicious Beaujolais Nouveau wine.
Amazing! It is an explosion of aromas in your mouth. The warmth accumulated during these long hot and dry months have filled the gamay with sugar and revealed the best of its character. Sugar turns into alcohol during the wine-making process and this year, if everybody agrees to announce a rare and exceptional vintage, it is because the red wine 2009 produced following this harvest reaches almost 13 °C.
When aromas are matched with a balanced structure, the result is the perfect expression of a land, a land pampered by its winemakers. And Mommessin winemakers dedicate all their forces to producing this 1st of September 2009 vintage.
